The Woodburn High School Woodburn Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology (WAAST) wing was destroyed in a fre. BBL Architects redesigned the academy to accommodate newer pedagogy and technologies and to create a vibrant, transparent and creative space for students. Schematic Design of both Phase 1 (restoring damaged space due to the fre) and Phase 2 (new 33,800 SF 2-story CTE Addition) was completed simultaneously so the construction of Phase 1 could be carefully designed and constructed before funding was reached to further develop and construct Phase 2.
The Phase 1 renovation included the remodel of several WAAST classrooms including a CTE pre-engineering classroom, Band and Choir classrooms, Study Skills and Life Skills classrooms to serve students requiring additional support as well as a relocated Athletic Department. This phase also included the construction of the future Hallway/Entry for the CTE Addition. The sprinklering of the whole High School was originally scheduled to be phased over 4 summers, but we were able to condense the schedule to complete it over 2 summers.
